Defining role of the press in genocide prevention - Blog - Committee to Protect Journalists

While in Sarajevo I attended an event titled “Media In War and Peace Time: Can We Do Better?”  

The answer is simply, yes.  The reality is that hate speech still finds its way onto prominent and popular media channels (yes, even in America) and often times even the honorable journalists are unable to call others out for fear of retribution.  

I’m left wondering if it’s the duty of the international community to berate, humiliate and expose the offending parties?  

When it comes to armed offenders, seemed to spur action on Kony 2012, not so much on Assad 2012 … why does it appear to be so difficult to hold wayward journalists accountable?
